Heaven

What does it take to get to Heaven?

There are big questions that haunt all of us. What happens when I die? Where will I spend eternity? The single most important question that you will ever answer is this - “If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?” Your relationship with Jesus Christ determines the answer to that question.

The Bible tells us in 1 John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...” The simple truth is God wants you to know where you're going! So, here it is in a nutshell:

To start, realize that God demands sinless perfection.
Revelation 21:27 says, “And there shall in no wise enter into it [Heaven] any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie...” In short, no sinners can be in God’s presence. Psalm 5:4 emphasizes this point, “For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.” I Corinthians 15:50 states, “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.” Heaven is a place where there is no sin and even one little sin would ruin it.

Next, accept responsibility for breaking God’s laws and falling short of His expectations.
In Romans 3:23 we find, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…” The word sin is an archery term. When an archer would miss the bullseye it was considered a sin. We are not archers but the truth still applies. God has set out a standard of perfection to get into heaven, yet none of us can hit that standard—no one is perfect. To miss God’s standard is to sin; we see in Romans 6:23 that, “The wages of sin is death…” Death in this verse is referring to an eternity separated from God in a place called Hell. Because we have ruined any chance of perfection we have earned our spot in Hell.

However, the good news is that God provided His Son to pay for our sins.
John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God loved you and me so much that He sent Jesus to accept the fate that we earned – Hell. We can see this in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God knew we were sinners, He knew that we could never be perfect, yet He loved us so much that He left His throne in Heaven to live as a man and die as our Savior.

Finally, respond by repenting of your sin (Acts 17:30) and trusting in the finished work of Jesus.
Romans 10:9,10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” In order to have a relationship with God and an eternal home in Heaven, we must stop trusting ourselves, our works, and our religions, and place our full trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of our sin and eternal life.

Then you can rest knowing that God guarantees eternal life to anyone who trusts in His Son.
1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” In Roman 10:13 the Bible says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” That is a promise directly from God that if you will pray to Him, confess that you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive your sins, and turn to Him alone to be your Saviour; He promises to save you and give you the free gift of eternal life.
