Our Purpose

Our Purpose

Inspire
According to Jesus, God’s number one priority is that His people love Him with their whole being. And since that is so, the clear priority of this church ought to be inspiring people to have a heart for God:

  • Through Christ-exalting music: In Psalm 34:1-3 David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.” Scriptural, Christ-exalting music, if it is performed passionately and with excellence, is a powerful tool that can truly touch someone’s heart for God.
  • Through Preaching: New Testament worship always focuses on the preaching of the Word of God. 2 Timothy 4:2 says it clearly, “preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” The primary objective in our preaching is to lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to exalt and magnify Him as our Savior and Lord. If we truly desire to inspire people to develop a heart for God, we must endeavor to rightly divide the Word of truth in order that their response, whatever it may be, is based upon the Word of God.
Include
Once we have seen a person’s heart touched for God, the second priority of our church is to include him or her as a part of the church family. Acts 2:41 states, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” People need a family or a place where they are loved and where they belong. Ephesians 2:19 says, “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.” Being included in a church family happens in different ways depending on the situation. But whatever the situation, we want every guest to feel included and welcome as soon as he or she arrives on the church property. Specifically, this happens at two major levels.

  • Through membership:
  • First, we know the Bible teaches that every person should be included as an identifiable member of a local assembly. Thus, a priority of our church ought to be to include guests in the life of this congregation to the point that they unite with this body of believers. Membership is accomplished in two basic ways:

    • First, a person can get saved and follow the Lord in believer’s baptism.
    • Second, if they have already been saved and baptized in a church of like faith, they can join by statement of faith in Christ.

  • Through fellowship: The importance of hospitality, encouragement and communication are key elements to keeping a church family close. Paul says in Romans 12:10, 13, 15, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality; Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”
Instruct
  • Through preaching and teaching: This is our primary mandate from scripture. Acts 2:42 says, “and they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers”. We encourage every member to attend not only the regular preaching services of the church, but also to be a part of a Sunday school class. Not only will they be inspired by teachers that have a heart for God, and not only will it help them be and stay included, but it will also help them to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
  • Through personal discipleship: Another major step in the instruction process is that of discipleship. We offer one-on-one discipleship for new converts.
Involve
Once someone has grown through the preaching and teaching of God's word, the biblical objective is to involve that person in ministry.
  • 1 Peter 4:10 says, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” When a person accepts Christ as Savior, he or she receives spiritual gifts through the divine enabling through the Holy Spirit and God expects them to use these gifts to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the local church.
  • 1 Corinthians 12, Paul says that every member has a place in the body. Just as there are no useless parts in a physical body, there are no members whose sole purpose is to sit and not serve. Every member should be a minister; every saint should be a servant.
Impact
Acts 1:8 says, “but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” This is the commission of the church. We are to go out and impact the regions of our world for the Lord Jesus Christ.
