Our Pastor
Ministry Experience: Josh Merrell has been the pastor of South Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas since 2011. Prior to that he served on staff at Bible Baptist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma under Wayne Hardy for ten years.
Education:
Originally planning to be a rancher and veterinarian Bro. Josh earned degrees in equine science from Rogers University, and animal science from Oklahoma State University. After later sensing God’s leading into the ministry, he enrolled at Heartland Baptist Bible College from which he graduated with a degree in pastoral theology. Currently, he is pursuing a M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
Calling: Pastor Merrell has been involved in church work all of his life. He was heavily involved in soul winning, children’s ministries, vacation bible schools, bus work, and more. While serving in these various capacities as a layman at Bible Baptist Church, God both intensified his burden for people and spiritual things and also took away his former passion for other pursuits. Thus, in the fall of 1999, he recognized that he could only be truly satisfied in vocational ministry.
Bro. Josh has been married to his wife Lee for 18 years. They have three children: Lily (12), Jorja (10), and Elijah (7). Together they enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities such as: camping, biking, hiking, skating, skiing, shooting and organized sports.
